Season 3 of Many Lumens is back with 5 more episodes featuring a powerhouse collection of artists, changemakers, and cultural workers. I’m your host, Maori Karmael Holmes.

In this second half, I speak with actor Danielle Deadwyler about the love and care she brings to her roles in projects like Till and Station Eleven.

Danielle Deadwyler: I want to see dynamic characters. I want to see flawed people. I want to see Black women or Black people, beings in all kinds of spaces. And what kind of interior journey is this person going through?

Chefs and entrepreneurs Omar Tate and Cybille St.Aude-Tate discuss their reverence and passion for Black cuisine across the diaspora.

Cybille St. Aude Tate: I think I make food for not only people with Haitian background, but for folks who straddle two cultures and they're trying to find their center. And within that, there's this imagination that can kind of occur, that is still rooted in history, that's still rooted in our foundation, but it is also just very, very fun.

And the multi-talented musician, composer, and artist Jason Moran, a MacArthur Genius, talks about how he imbues his work with a sense of history and culture.

Jason Moran: And even though I have these titles that have the word jazz in it, I know it's more an umbrella term. But it can't fit how incredibly complex that knot is for what makes the music feel the way it does. And for people to be impacted around the world when they hear it.

We’ll also have episodes with the Academy Award-nominated producer and director Lisa Cortés, legendary fashion icon turned filmmaker Bethann Hardison, and the multidisciplinary artist Fariha Róisín.

These new episodes will be dropping weekly starting on October 11th.
